Overview:

The Calgary Soldiers' Memorial will be a memorial that will list the name of soldiers killed while serving with the Regiments during times of war. The stones will also represent the units that are perpetuated by the current day Regiments. Currently, the following Regiments are involved with the project: The King’s Own Calgary Regiment, 41 Combat Engineer Regiment, 746 (Calgary) Communications Squadron, The Calgary Highlanders, 14 (Calgary) Service Battalion and 15 Field Ambulance. The design of the Memorial has been approved by The City of Calgary and the Regiments involved.  An artist’s rendering is shown below.

Location:

As part of the Memorial Drive redevelopment, The Calgary Soldiers’ Memorial is planned for the south side of Memorial Drive, West of 10th St. SW. Initial enquiries with the City of Calgary have been warmly received and official approval is pending.

Time Line:

The intention is to complete the project prior to November of 2010 so that it can be part of the Remembrance Week commemorations.
